Funny words

Hello!

Have you ever thought about how many words that actually means something else in another language? And there are many of them that makes you laugh and that can get you into some serious missunderstandings.... hehe

I came to think about this today and it's always so funny so I'm gonna share with you some of my examples and maybe you can add some more!

First of all there are always funny names... like Brad Pitt for example, because in Swedish "Pitt" means "dick"... and Dick is also a very funny name in English! haha How can you give your son that name?!
Then of course my grandfather's name, Uno... which means "one" in Spanish and Linda that means "cute" or "beautiful" and my name Ida that means "one way (ticket)" in Spanish! haha
Then there is the name Ann Ahl in Swedish that if you say it sounds like "anal"... ;O) or the surnames Redondo and Gordo in Spanish which means "round" and "fat"... that's kind of funny!

Then there are sooo many words... here comes some of them:

fart ("speed" in Swedish, but in English it is something quite different!)
kock ("chef" in Swedish, and with another spelling something else in English.... hihi)
fack ("box" or "compartment" in Swedish...if you spell it differently you get an ugly English word)
hora ("whore" in Swedish, means hour in Spanish)
hit ("this way" in Swedish, means something else in English)
slut ("finished" in Swedish, and again something else in English... hehe)
faster (means "quicker" in english and "aunt" in Swedish)
Gun (a name in Sweden and a weapon in England)
prick (a "dot" or "spot" in Swedish and a "dick" in English)

Then finally the best of them all: the car Honda Fitta.... for those of you who aren't Swedish "fitta" in Swedish means "cunt". A really ugly word as you see... and I'm not surprised that the car never came to Sweden with that name! hahahaha

Hope you had fun, because I did! Have a nice evening everyone!

Ida (y vuelta) = tur (och retur) , Ida = one way ;O) hihihi

The dentist and a not so great day

Good morning!

Yesterday was not really what I had expected... but some days are like that so you just have to accept it, I guess.

My plan was to go to eat with Carlos after work, go to the dentist and then spend the rest of the afternoon by the pool and to get home just in time for the football game between Spain and Portugal, a perfect plan, haha, if it had worked out.

Instead, I was exhausted during the whole day at work, I had to take the bus and a 10 minute walk to Carlos parents´ apartment as Carlos called me at work to say he wouldn't be here to pick me up on time. Beside this, there is a strike for all the employees in the underground in Madrid so the bus was full! As I got to their apartment I got another call from Carlos saying that he wouldn't be there for our appointment for the dentist either so I went alone. The good thing is: my teeth are fine! ;O)  Afterwards, I couldn't go to the pool because Carlos got my bikini and towell in the car and he was still working! So I spend the afternoon with his mother instead. Don't get me wrong, she is a nice person, but it was so warm yesterday so a bath in the pool would have been great. When Carlos finally showed up at eight o'clock in the evening I was almost sleeping on the couch, haha. On the way home we decided to stop at the McDonald's for some food as I didn't want to make anything at home. It took more than 30 minutes to get the food and there were only 4 cars before us! So finally we missed half of the football game... but hey, Spain won and I saw the goal so I can't be sad! ;O) After the football I crawled into my bed and then I don't remember anything else... haha.

I don't like to go to the dentist... but who does? ;O)
(picture from Google)

Let's hope for a better day today! And for some relaxing by the pool this afternoon!

Have a nice day everyone!

It's pool time!

Hey out there!

These days we go almost every day to the pool. The strange thing is that during the day it's normally good weather but then, when you least expect it, there comes a thunderstorm. Straaaange!!! hehe But as long as it only rains during the night, like yesterday, I'm ok with it as it cleans the dry and dirty air around here a bit and it makes the temperature staying supportable.

Here comes some pictures from the pool from yesterday.

Ida's feet + Carlos sandals = too small feet or too big sandals (don't know which of it ;O) )

Have a nice day in the sun!

Glad midsommar! Happy midsummer!

Hello out there!

Today it's midsummer in Sweden, or "Midsommar" as you would say in Swedish! I hope the weather is great up in the north and that everyone will have a really nice day!

For me this year there will not be any special celebration as I'm in Madrid and I have to work all morning. The sky is grey and it was raining on my way to work, so not a great day to spend outside anyway. But we will go to IKEA today I think so I will buy some "sill" and make some typical Swedish food this evening at least! I think I will celebrate the Swedish summer in July when I go home for vacation instead, that's gonna be great!

Sooo..... from me to you all..... GLAD MIDSOMMAR! ;O)

The last days

Hello!

Sorry that I haven´t written anything for a few days now. I have a lot to tell you about this time though.

Last week we went to Carlos sister´s house to celebrate her daughter´s birthday. It was a nice afternoon with Carlos family. His sister´s family have a little hamster and it´s sooo cute!

Little cute Miley.

As you know I have been working night shift last week, so I haven´t done so much more, as I sleep during the whole morning. Then in the afternoon we have mostly been around home, going for a walk and such things. But since Saturday I´m off and this weekend has been great! On Saturday we spent the afternoon with some friends having a barbecue and drinking sangria and beer and having lots of fun!

On Sunday we went with Ida and Jean to Cercedilla and the adventure park Amazonia, where you climb between the trees in different ways. So much fun! Even if I´m a bit afraid of hights, it went fine. The weather was perfect and it was another great day!

After the adventure in the park we stopped for a beer in the village before heading home.
I´ll show you the other pictures later as we forgot our camera in the car so we used Ida´s camera, and therefore the pictures from the park I haven´t got yet. You can see them on facebook meanwhile if you want!

Yesterday me and Carlos went to the pool in the afternoon as they have finally opened the one here in Meco and the weather is getting better. Some relax and sunbathing, great day!

Have a nice afternoon!

Only 2,5 nights to go!

Hey out there!

By now I have completely changed my daily rythm and I have no problem beeing awake during the night and sleeping until 4 in the afternoon. That's what night shift do to you! hehe But now I have only two and a half more nights to work and then I have 5 days off! Isn't that a good compensation?!

Yesterday I got the food I ordered on the Internet.... I know it sounds weird to order food online but it's some milk free food that I ordered on a German website to try some stuff you can't find here in the stores. I'll show you what it was later! Jummy!

Have a nice night! ;O)

Fin de mar!

The summer list

The summer list - copy and answer the questions you too!

1. Your favourite place during summer:

Örn, a place at the west coast of Sweden where I went with my family to go camping each summer during my growth. 2. How do you spend the perfect summer day?
Going on a day trip and spend the day in nice company discovering some new place out there.

3. What is your favourite food to put on the grill?
Fish with vegetables and mushrooms, jummy!

4. What plans do you have for this summer/vacations?
To go home to Sweden to see my family and friends! And to go camping at Örn again with my family as I haven't been there for several years now.

5. Which are your favourite summer colours?
Blue like the sea and the sky! I love all types of blue, but specially turquoise right now!

7. The best summer memory from your childhood:
There are so many of them! Sitting having pic-nic on the mountain in the sunset watching the sea with my family and our dog Otti, going travelling trough Europe by car all together, beeing to soccer camps having a great time with my friends, playing soccer in the park with the neighbours until it got dark outside..... there are so many wonderful memories!

The sea without doubt! You cannot compare it! After comes the lake and last the pool.

Party Party

Hey!

Well, this two last days I have not done so much more than working and sleeping, so not so much to tell you about. Now I have two days off before my night shift starts. Today it's a grey day and not so fun to be outside so I'm sitting at home actually, trying to get myself to clean the apartment a bit but I don't really feel like doing it so we'll see what happens. Tomorrow if the weather is better I want to go to the pool :O) let's hope for some sun!

So as I don't have so much new to tell you about, I'll show you some pictures from the other day when I went out with Jess and her friends.

Me and Jess, love you sweetie!

Havin' some fun on the dancefloor!

Allright folks, now I have to make some lunch! My darling is coming home around three, great!

Have a nice day!

The Mallorca trip

Hellooooo everybody!

And so.... as I promised, here comes the pictures from our little Mallorca trip. We were there between the 2nd and 4th of June.

Just arrived to the loooovely island of Mallorca! We arrived around 12:00 so we had all afternoon to be on the beach and go for a long walk in the evening.

The view from the hotel room, not the best hotel in the world but you see the beach and sea!

Carlos is chilling out on the balcony :O) reeeeelax!

During our evening walk along the beach we found this fantastic piece of art, that's what I call a real sand castle!!!

I just love the parasols on the beach! they are so cute! :O)

Lovely sky in the sunset the first evening

Some nice pictures of the sunset as well

On the second day we were at the beach all day and I didn't bring the camera so no pictures from there... but in the evening we went out as always to have a walk along the beach, but as we walked and walked and walked the day before we decided to take the touristic train this day instead, hihi. It's so funny to sit there and feel like such a tourist! haha but it was really comfortable I have to say!

The tuff-tuff train! :O)

Me and Carlos on the train, havin' a great time! :O) hihi

I got this nice picture of my darling on the train, I really like this one

Carlos likes to be on vacations! oooh yeah!

On the third and last day we went to the beach in the morning and then, after leaving the hotel room we rented bicycles and went, as last year, on the road along the shore to Palma. This year we didn't get that far though but it was still great! :O)

Me enjoying the bicycle ride

Carlos ;O)  such a nice picture!

We saw this funny motor bike, do you think Carlos would mind if I paint his like this? ;O)

Having a rest in the sun, making some nice pictures

I love these boats, they are beautiful

Look at this terrace! Soooooo nice!

Ok, this is my favourite house! I want this one! hihi. One day I will have a little house with blue window doors (don't know the correct name of those in english but I hope you understand me)

This one is for my grandfather. His name is Uno and he always says that in Spanish he is the number one (el uno) hihihi so this one is for him! (morfar, denna är till dig! visst är det en fin bar?! saknar er!)

Havin' some rest and some sun at the same time

Carlos watching the sea

The beautiful Mediterranean Sea, I looooove it!

At 18:00 we took the bus to the airport to go back to Madrid. I left my Mallorca with great sadness in my heart... soooooon I will go back I hope!

Fin de mar!

Back at work

Hellooo out there!

Now I'm back at work after some days off... well actually I have been working the whole weekend as well but anyway...

Last week on Wednesday we took the plane to Mallorca for some relaxing days on the beach. We went to the same place as last year but to a different hotel. It was so nice to be back there and have a bath in the sea and lay on the beach relaxing or have a walk along the beach. I wanted to stay there! I'll tell you more later when I show you the pictures.

We got home on Friday night and on Saturday I worked all morning. In the afternoon I saw the film "Along Came Polly". Such a great movie! In the evening I met up with Jess, who came to Madrid for the weekend, to have dinner and to go out dancing. Some of her friends from Galicia (in the north of Spain), now living in Madrid, also came along. We had a great time and it was so long since I was out dancing now so I enjoyed it a lot! Such a great night! And it was so great to see Jess again!

On Sunday I slept until late as I got home really late and then I worked all evening. And so now it's Monday and I'm sitting here at work writing. I'll put up all the photos later so have some patience! :O)

Have fun and enjoy the sunny days!

Next week: Mallorca!

Good evening!

Today there has not been much to write about. I have been working, and then looking for something to do on my days off next week. And sooo...... we're going to Mallorca!
It's one of my favourite places, not just because that's where me and Carlos met once upon a time, but also because it has so much more to offer than just the massive turism. Well, while speaking of Mallorca, I'll give you some nice pictures from my time working there but also from my other trips to this lovely island! Enjoy!

on the rocks in Andratx, our special snorkling place :O)

The little apartment where we lived.

Me with my collegues at the restaurant in Santa Ponsa where I worked.

Puerto de Alcudia in the sunset.

Biking to Palma.

The Mediterranean Sea oooh yeah!

Well well, this was just a few pictures, I could go on and on and on.. but I'll spare you that.. haha
Later I'll show you the ones from this trip! Sleep tight!

Fin de mar!

Lunch in the city centre

Hi there!

Yesterday was a good day! I went to have lunch with a friend of mine from my time at the University here in Madrid, Yesica. We went to the central old square "Plaza mayor", where we sat down to eat on one of the many terraces. It was a sunny day with the perfect temperature outside. We also took a walk in the city centre, where you see a lot of turists this time of year. It´s kind of funny to watch them when they go exploring everything, making pictures and so on.

On his way home, Carlos picked me up and when we got home we had an ice tea at the balcony, reading the mail. It´s so nice to have the balcony now when the weather is getting better. I have breakfast out there every day right now!

And before I head off for work I´ll give you some pictures from yesterday.

Plaza Mayor

Me :O)

Have a nice afternoon! See you later!

The weekend

Hi there!

The last days I have had off from work and it´s been so great! :O)

On Friday Carlos only worked until 14:15 and so he was home early, as all Fridays. We just chilled out and it was a calm evening with some nice food and lovely company hehe

On Saturday we went to IKEA to look at some new furniture for the bedroom as I told you. We found some really nice white furniture, but we haven´t found the perfect matress yet... so we bought everything except the bed and that as it didn´t fit in the car anyway. So another day we have to rent a bigger car to get the rest home, but at least we have started now :O) It´s gonna be sooo nice! I´ll show you some photos later when it´s finished.

Yesterday was Sunday and we went to the confirmation of Carlos niece. She was looking so nice with a white long dress and curly hair, like a princess! :O) After the ceremony in the church we went to a nice restaurant. We got a lot of food and it was really good as well. Salmon to begin with, then really big shrimps and in the end meet with potatoes and vegetables. We all got a picture of Carlos niece in a nice frame. It was a nice day and the weather was great, even a little too warm almost.

While our camera didn´t have so much battery, we didn´t get so good pictures from the day. But here comes one of me from when we got home, with my favourite blue dress.

Today I have rested and done some cleaning at home. Soon Carlos will be home I hope.

See you later alligator!

Havin' a cold

Yesterday I went home from work early, I wasn't feeling so well. I spent the evening with a film in the couch with Carlos. We saw the Spanish film "Celda 211". It's about a riot at a prison and one of the staff gets locked in with the rest of the prisoners and as he was supposed to start his work there the next day, he start to act like a prisoner to fool the rest and so that they don't kill him. It was a good film and it seems like a real story, so I liked it.

Today I'm back at work, feeling a little bit better. Hope it stays that way the rest of the evening. After today I have 5 days off again. That's gonna be great! Perhaps we are going to IKEA this weekend to buy some new stuff for the bedroom. Fun fun fun!

I leave you for a little more of work... have a nice evening!

Sunny days

So finally the sun came to Spain!

These last days has been really sunny and nice, and today I've been sunbathing on the balcony with some nice breakfast and good music. :O) This is life!

Anyhow, this afternoon I have to work and that's not so funny, and my throat is hurting so I guess a cold is on it's way... but but... the sun is shining!

On Sunday we went to Alcalá as I said. We took the motor bike and there we went for a walk in the old city centre before we went for some tapas at the bar I told you about. A really nice evening! And of course we stopped by the Swedish candy shop for some sweets! Too bad it's so expensive, otherwise I would have bought a whole lot more!

Me and my cutie at the square in Alcalá.

Swedish candy, jummy!!! :O)

Have a nice evening everyone!

Sunday, lovely Sunday

Today it's Sunday, and I'm sitting at work... still have about 4 hours to go. But the sun is finally shining and this afternoon I will go out! I think we are going to Alcalá, one of the old cities outside Madrid. In this city they have some of the best "tapas" according to me :O) There is a bar called "el Tapón" where you get one little plate with food for each beverage you buy, and the food there is great!

So let's hope for a really nice Sunday afternoon!

See ya!

What I miss the most from Sweden

Hey there!

Today the sun is shining! Too bad I have to spend the afternoon at work... but I've had a good morning today!

Well today I though about writing down the things I miss the most from Sweden. So here comes my list:

1. Family and friends, of course!

2. Swedish candy! Here the candy only taste like a lot of sugar.. and they don't have salt liquorice! There are some small shops with Swedish candy now though, but really expensive.

3. Swedish food. I especially miss the bread and the soya cream, vanilla sauce etc. and of course my mother's food!

4. Swedish summer nights. I love the light summer nights in Sweden! And everything with the Swedish summer actually!

5. The forest. I miss to go for a walk/ go jogging in the forest at home.

6. The service. Here you can be happy if the person attending you smiles and actually cares about helping you out. They all need a really good couse in customer care! :O)

7. Honesty and respect. Swedish people are really honest and respectful if you compare them to latin people.

8. That people listen. Here it's normal to start speaking when someone else still hasn't finished yet, and so they kind of all speak at once. I prefer the Swedish way of waiting until the other person has finished and then speak.

9. Cider. To have a cider in the bar instead of a beer!

10. The Swedish TV and seeing the movies in the original language. I can still watch a bit of Swedish TV on the internet, but it's not the same. Here they dub all films into Spanish, watching for example George Clooney speaking Spanish is not to recommend!

(alla bilder hittade via www.google.se)

Well this was the things I could come up with right now. I'm sure I have forgotten something. What would you miss the most if you were living in another country?

Have a nice afternoon everyone!

Lots of food and caramel cookies!

Good evening!

Today I feel good about myself! I have done a lot of things and I have eaten quite healthy. I have washed clothes, cleaned a little in the apartment and some other small things. And as I told you this morning, I have also been to the gym.

An easy way to eat healthy is to make a sallad for lunch. Today mine was made of lettuce, corn, tomato, egg and tuna. And then I put some sunflower seeds over to get some more taste. As a supplement I ate it with a carrot. Together with a tropical fruit juice you get a lot of good vitamines!

Then to the tasty bit! Today I've made caramel cookies (kolakakor på svenska). So easy to make and sooo tasty!

Jummy!!!

For the dinner I made a mix of salmon with potatoes and vegetables, also really good and healthy!

Together with a dill sauce it's reaaaally tasty!

Carlos also likes it!

It's been a good day just being home. Tomorrow work waits again... now I'm gonna curl up in the couch watching some TV before bed!

Fin de mar!

swetting...

Good morning! :O)

Today I have slept until late. I got up at 10:30 and made some breakfast and then I put the clothes on and went to the gym. Today I went to the step class. I love it as the instructor is really funny and has so much energy that he passes it on to everyone! When you get home you are exhuasted and swetting as hell, at the same time as you get energy for the day, a strange thing... it makes you feel happy at least and that's good!

Tired after the gym, it's gonna be really nice with a shower now!

Well today I'm gonna do some cleaning and stuff like that. Hope for a funnier evening when I'm done with the boring stuff! hehe

Have a nice day!

Ready for the summer!

Hey there!

Today as I said I went to do some summer shopping with a friend from work. We went to one of the many big shopping centres there are here in Madrid. We stayed almost all day long and I baught a lot of things! Of course I've made some pictures so that I can show them to you!

New bikini, sandals, scarf and face masks, all from H&M.

Summer dress, also from H&M. A lot of colours!

Stripes for the summer! Of course, also from H&M. :O)

Lila and summer blue with dots! These ones are actually not from H&M, they are from NewYorker. They have a lot of nice and colourfull clothes there. I like!

Well this was all for me. Then I bought this bag for my mum, as she wanted one. Hope you like it mum!

Black bag from the shop Blanco.

Well, well, this was the result of my summer shopping! I'm very happy about it! :O)
So now I'm ready for you, summer here I come!

Fin de mar!
